Colonoscopy Services

Early Detection is the Difference

State-of-the-Art Colonoscopy

At Lifetime Health, colonoscopies are performed using state-of-the-art equipment. During the screening for polyps and signs of colorectal cancer, you will be sedated but conscious. A specially-trained surgeon or gastroenterologist performs the procedure, and a registered nurse constantly monitors you from the beginning of the test through recovery. The exam itself typically takes 20 to 40 minutes. If something is found, the medical provider can perform a biopsy or remove it.

In addition to colonoscopy, we also perform the following services at the Joseph C. Wilson Health Center:

  • Gastroscopy
  • Esophageal Dilatations
  • Polypectomy
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Putting You In The Comfort Zone

Rochester Gastroenterology Associates and the staff at Lifetime Health Medical Group will provide you with everything you need to make your colonoscopy as comfortable as possible, including:

  • Familiar setting
  • Caring providers
  • Prep kits right on premises
  • Pre-exam call
  • Follow-up call
  • Escort out to vehicle after procedure

Who Should Be Screened?

In general, individuals age 50 and older should have a colonoscopy. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, you have a greater risk of developing colon cancer and related conditions. Other high-risk groups include:

  • African-Americans
  • People with a history of inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease)
  • People with a history of uterine and breast cancer
  • People with inactive lifestyles or high-fat diets

Talk to your physician about how often you need to be screened. Usually, it is about every 5-10 years, but this depends on your personal risk factors for colorectal cancer.

Why Should You Be Screened?

  • Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women in the U.S.
  • When detected early, colorectal cancer has a 90% survival rate.
  • Screening can prevent the disease by finding colon growths called polyps that can then be removed before they turn into cancer.
  • Peace of mind: Feel better knowing you have taken the necessary steps to keep you in good health.
