Early Detection Is the Difference
State-of-the-Art Colonoscopy
At Lifetime Health Medical Group, colonoscopies are performed using state-of-the-art colonoscopes. During the screening for polyps and signs of colorectal cancer, you will be sedated but conscious. A specially trained gastroenterologist or surgeon performs the procedure, and a registered nurse constantly monitors you from the beginning of the test through to recovery. The exam typically takes 15 to 30 minutes. If something is found, then the physician can immediately perform a biopsy to remove it.
Putting You In The Comfort Zone
The staff at Lifetime Health Medical Group will provide you with everything you need to make your colonoscopy as comfortable as possible, including:
- Familiar setting
- Caring providers
- Prep kits are available at all Lifetime Health pharmacies
- Pre-exam call
- Follow-up call
- Escort out to vehicle after procedure
Who Should Get a Colonoscopy?
In general, individuals age 50 and older should have a colonoscopy. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, then you have a greater risk of developing colon cancer and related conditions. Other high-risk groups include:
- African Americans
- People with diabetes
- People with a history of bowel disease
- People with inactive lifestyles or high-fat diets
Talk to your physician about how often you need to be screened. Usually, it is about once every ten years, but this depends on your personal risk factors for colorectal cancer.
Why Should You Be Screened for Colorectal Cancer?
- Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women in the U.S.
- When detected early, colorectal cancer has a 90% survival rate.
- Screening can prevent the disease by finding colon growths called polyps that can then be removed before they turn into cancer.
- Peace of mind: Feel better knowing you have taken the necessary steps to keep you in good health.
