Patients and Pharmacists Working Together

MedSenseSM, the Pharmacotherapy Research Initiative, is a collaborative effort of Lifetime Health Medical Group and The State University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It provides you with the opportunity to:

  • Improve your overall health with the support of trained pharmacists
  • Better understand and utilize your over-the-counter and prescription medications
  • Optimize management of your medical conditions
  • Learn how to properly use medical devices

As a member of MedSense, you'll be evaluated by Pharmacotherapy Research Center (PRC) faculty from the university who are studying the impact of pharmacists on patient health care.

Who should enroll in MedSense?

Anyone who:

  • Takes multiple medications
  • Has diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, high cholesterol, or heart disease
  • Wants to know more and better understand their medications or medical conditions

How does it work?

You have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a clinical pharmacist. The meeting is tailored to your needs, taking into account your medical history and conditions, your lifestyle and other important factors. The pharmacist will:

  • Review your medications with you, including how you take them, the potential side effects and drug interactions
  • Provide educational information about your medical condition and make resources available to help you manage your condition and medications
  • Share this information with your primary care provider

Who is eligible for the program?

The program is available to all patients with a Lifetime Health Medical Group primary care physician.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to participate in the program. MedSense is a free educational resource for you.

There are many benefits to participating in the MedSense program including the opportunity to learn more about your medications and medical conditions, which may lead to improvements in your overall health and well-being.
